Thin, crispy, buttery, sugar covered cookies....I fondly remember my Grandma making these treats every Christmas! I don't have her old recipe, but I do have a recipe from a family friend. Let me tell you, I made this recipe and they look and taste like I remember - SCORE!
What you need:
4 cups flour
1/2 lb softened butter
3 eggs
2 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 or 2 egg whites
colored sugar, cinnamon and chopped walnuts, sprinkles
What to do:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla and mix. Slowly incorporate flour . Refrigerate dough for 30 min before rolling dough.
Using a rolling pin and lightly floured work surface, roll dough to desired thickness (I like mine approximately 1/16 inch thickness). Cut out shapes with cookie cutters, lightly brush with egg whites and decorate with colored sugar, sprinkles or cinnamon and chopped walnuts.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 6-8 minutes or until lightly browned.
Makes about 10 -12 dozen depending on thickness used and size of cookie cutter
We love to let our little ones help out with the decorating, little pinch of sugar, little pinch..
Sand tart decorations 2 year old style! We'll leave these for Santa |
